“It is true that the Chief Libationist is injured, but it’s not like the Chief Libationist is humanity’s only champion.”

The Great Emperor of Fengdu replied, “Both that refuse-to-die from Dragon Tiger Mountain or that old monk from White Horse Temple were on the same level as the Chief Libationist, and need I remind you have pissed off everyone? Even if the Chief Libationist isn’t coming, who is to say that those two wouldn’t pay us a visit?”

“Surely not,” Cojoined said.

“No, the great emperor is right. We should be on our guard.” Tyrant Extinction said thoughtfully, “There is a precedent. We should be ready.”

The precedent Tyrant Extinction mentioned was the Fengdu’s invasion of humanity tens of thousands of years ago, of course. It was an era of chaos, and Fengdu had seized the opportunity to invade the human world, kickstart calamities and disasters, and plunder countless human souls. As a result, they incurred the wrath of humanity and were besieged by everyone who considered themselves righteous. In the end, they took massive damage and were nearly destroyed. If King Taishan hadn’t secretly lent them a hand at the last moment, there might not be a Fengdu today.

Even so, it was only recently Fengdu had finally recovered from that damage.

Today, they had stuck their hands into the human world once more and even exposed King Taishan’s existence. The orthodoxy probably wouldn’t let this go.

Sect Spirit realized this and echoed in agreement, “That is true. If King Taishan’s safety is threatened, then we should be on our guard.”

Bright Star said worriedly, “What should we do then?”

“There’s no need to worry too much.”

Sect Spirit continued, “Although King Taishan is exposed, it isn’t necessarily a bad thing. King Taishan was renowned during the ancient times, so the humans must be wary of his reputation. Even if they are plotting against Fengdu, I’m sure they would not dare to act recklessly. They will plot slowly and meticulously, unaware that they are giving us time to recover.”

The Great Emperor of Fengdu wasn’t nearly as optimistic as he was, however. “So what? The humans outnumber us many times to one. Even if they gave us enough time to recover to full health, each of us would have to fight dozens of human champions alone. In the end, our resistance would prove futile, and Fengdu would fall to its tribulation.”

Tyrant Extinction, Sect Spirit and more fell silent.

The Great Emperor of Fengdu was telling the truth after all.

“In the end, the crux of the matter is King Taishan, not us.”

The Great Emperor of Fengdu spoke up once more, “How is King Taishan doing, Tyrant Extinction?”

Tyrant Extinction did not say anything.

The Great Emperor of Fengdu stared at Tyrant Extinction with blazing eyes. “Tell me the truth, Tyrant Extinction. Are his injuries extremely severe?” Bright Star retorted, “King Taishan’s power reigns above all. Naturally, he is fine.”

The Great Emperor of Fengdu did not even look at Bright Star. He simply pressed Tyrant Extinction again, “Answer me, Tyrant Extinction!” A moment of silence later, Tyrant Extinction finally replied, “King Taishan is fine.”

“Fine?” A storm seemed to be flashing within the Great Emperor of Fengdu’s pupils. “Really?”

“You best consider my question carefully before you answer me. If you are right, then that is of course ideal. If not, then we must be prepared for the worst. If your dishonesty and incompetence leads to an error and misjudgment, then Fengdu will be destroyed, and we are all going to die, understand?”

“Not even your King Taishan would escape this tribulation!”

“Watch your words, great emperor!” Tyrant Extinction and Sect Spirit glared at him.

“I am simply saying it as it is.” The Great Emperor of Fengdu said fearlessly, “So speak, Tyrant Extinction. How is King Taishan doing?”

“Like I said, he is fine,” Tyrant Extinction answered. “Don’t you believe me?”

“I do not, in fact, believe you.” The Great Emperor of Fengdu said coldly, “The only way you can convince me is if King Taishan tells me himself that he is fine.” Bright Star rebuked him, “King Taishan is the master of Fengdu. What right do you have to command him to meet you?” The Great Emperor of Fengdu said, “Fine. Bring me to him then. Once I have confirmed his condition, I will apologize to him myself.”

Tyrant Extinction frowned deeply. “You are pushing it, great emperor.”

The Great Emperor of Fengdu sneered. “How am I pressing you, exactly? I am only doing this for the sake of Fengdu and King Taishan.”

“In any case, it is really starting to feel like you are afraid of letting me meet King Taishan. Are his injuries that severe?”

“Enough.” Tyrant Extinction’s eyes turned cold. “I’m starting to think that your desperation is not driven by consideration for Fengdu or King Taishan’s wellbeing either.”

“You dare!” The Great Emperor of Fengdu’s aura abruptly rose and poured down from above like a river. It was vast and unstoppable.

Tyrant Extinction was immediately pushed back. He just barely avoided falling on his back.

“What are you doing, great emperor?”

Bright Star, Sect Spirit and Cojoined immediately appeared behind Tyrant Extinction’s back. They were all watching the Great Emperor of Fengdu closely.

The Great Emperor of Fengdu did not respond. Or rather, he responded by increasing his aura even more. Behind his back, an image took form and bowed his head.

When King Yama bowed his head, a human died, and a ghost disappeared from existence.

Despite their combined efforts, the four ghosts and gods were no match for him. They were pushed back repeatedly.

“What is the meaning of this, great emperor? Are you trying to kill us?!”

“So what if I am?”

The Great Emperor of Fengdu declared domineeringly yet indifferently, “I am the great emperor of Fengdu. I am the sovereign, and you the subjects, and yet you have disrespected me again and again. Should I not kill such disloyal subjects?”

“Hmph! I think you just want to take this opportunity to eliminate us!” Tyrant Extinction manifested all of his tattoos into reality in an attempt to fight back. However, he was no match just like the rest of his cohorts.

The Great Emperor of Fengdu was stronger than them to begin with. If they were at peak strength, then the Six Ghosts and Gods could definitely suppress him six to one. However, they had lost two of their numbers, and their powers originated from King Taishan. Since King Taishan was severely injured, their powers had become much weaker as well. Naturally, they were no match for the Great Emperor of Fengdu.

They were lucky that the Great Emperor of Fengdu was seriously injured himself. Otherwise, their situation would be even worse than it already was.

In fact, they were the one who made this happen. It was to weaken the Great Emperor of Fengdu so that he couldn’t take advantage of King Taishan’s weakness and their injuries.

After all, they actually shared a hostile relationship with the Great Emperor of Fengdu.

Humans were divided by personal interests. Strangers were no different.

The Six Ghosts and Gods served King Taishan, but the Great Emperor of Fengdu descended from the Earth Yin Origin Lord. That’s right. The Great Emperor of Fengdu was the successor of the Earth Yin Origin Lord.

The Earth Yin Origin Lord was a natural deity just like King Taishan. Although he lost the battle for the Nether and Fengdu’s authority and was slain by King Taishan, he had left behind his inheritances.

King Taishan was the victor, so Fengdu was always under the control of King Taishan’s faction. It was hard enough for the Earth Yin Origin Lord’s faction to survive, much less pose a threat against King Taishan’s faction.

Later, the old Fengdu was destroyed, and King Taishan fell into slumber. His faction also suffered massive damage as a result. This allowed the leader of the Earth Yin Origin Lord’s faction to rise up and take the position of Great Emperor of Fengdu.

That said, King Taishan’s faction was the orthodox faction. Although the Earth Yin Origin Lord’s faction managed to occupy the royal position, King Taishan’s faction also managed to occupy the advisor position; the Six Ghosts and Gods specifically. This allowed them to fight against the Great Emperor of Fengdu and prevent him from taking full control of Fengdu.

For many years, they had battled against the Great Emperor of Fengdu for control over the capital city of the damned. Alas, neither faction could overwhelm the other because they were equally matched. This precarious balance had lasted for thousands and thousands of years.

This was why King Taishan had not notified the Great Emperor of Fengdu about his plan to corrupt the human world with the Yellow Spring and confer a Yin Son of Heaven.

Had the plan succeeded, King Taishan would have awakened and returned to Fengdu, and the Great Emperor of Fengdu would die for sure. Not only that, the entire point of conferring a Yin Son of Heaven was to rob the Great Emperor of Fengdu of his authority and power.

If only to keep himself alive, the Great Emperor of Fengdu would have interfered with the conspiracy in some way. Naturally, they did not inform him about it.

Long story short, the Six Ghosts and Gods and the Great Emperor of Fengdu shared a hostile relationship even though they were all ghosts of the underworld. That was why this was happening.
