Chapter 1715: Stalemate and Perfect Situation
The High-Frequency Concussion Missile aimed at Feylis detonated midair, barely a third of the distance from its intended target.
An overlord-level psychic force shattered the missile from within.
The premature detonation, combined with the collision of psychic force, triggered a massive energy clash that rippled across a large portion of the subspace.
Feylis’ position was some distance from the blast site.
Even so, the violent shockwave unleashed in that instant, coupled with the suffocating pressure of being locked onto by an overlord-class vessel, caused Feylis to spit out a mouthful of deep crimson blood mid-incantation.
Her forbidden spell was interrupted. The faint volcanic elemental pattern that had begun to form beneath the Gallant Federation’s central battlefield quickly dissipated.
Crack!
The orange-red crystal sphere floating before her suddenly fractured, its surface splitting open with countless deep fissures.
Fortunately, the crystal sphere did not shatter completely.
Though its surface was now riddled with cracks, it still clung precariously to its fragile equilibrium.
Only thin wisps of turbulent pyro elemental energy escaped through the fissures, clearly showing that the sphere was no longer in its original, pristine state.
Taking a slow breath, the deathly pale Rank Six mage tucked the cracked crystal sphere back into the folds of her magic robe.
Under these circumstances, continuing to cast the forbidden spell was no longer possible.
The earlier interruption was only one factor.
Had Feylis stubbornly persisted in chanting the spell, she would almost certainly have faced further retaliation from the Gallant Federation.
Forbidden spells were not magic that could be cast or conjured at will.
This was especially true of large-scale forbidden spells.
Attempting to cast such magic in front of hostile overlord-level forces was tantamount to suicide!
Even a soul overmage would not have acted so recklessly on the battlefield, much less a mage like Feylis who had yet to reach the peak of Rank Six.
Fortunately, the forbidden spell Feylis had attempted to unleash relied primarily on the orange-red crystal sphere as its casting medium, and she had also been protected by the intervention of an overlord-level psychic from the Rosen Dynasty Civilization.
Even so, the elemental backlash she suffered was more than enough to give Feylis a harsh taste of the consequences.
Her pale complexion at this moment was the result of the backlash she had suffered when the forbidden spell was interrupted.
Meanwhile, Sein and the others continued their joint assault on the Rank Six Apocalypse World creature before them.
One of the two light blades it had wielded earlier was already gone, lost somewhere amidst the chaos of the battlefield.
Even the armor it wore was tattered and battered.
The Rank Six God of Decay’s law power was indeed impressive.
It could corrode even the equipment of a Rank Six being.
This particular Apocalypse World creature was simply too “poor”. Had it possessed a world-class secret treasure like the Wasteland Armor, it would never have ended up in such a pathetic state.
World-class secret treasures were far from common in the Astral Realm, even though Black Oblivion and his cousins each wielded at least one.
In reality, even within Magus World, not every Rank Six or higher knight or mage had a world-class secret treasure in their possession.
On average, ownership among Rank Six Magus World powerhouses hovered at only around fifty percent.
Of course, the offspring of overlords were an entirely different matter.
The Grand Apocalypse World creature before Sein might have been dirt poor, but it was astonishingly resilient.
Despite suffering so much, it stubbornly refused to die.
Even Sein could not help but admire its tenacity.
Unfortunately, he had already used up his supply of super bombs. Otherwise, he might have been tempted to test it on the creature.
The abrupt halt in Feylis’ chanting naturally drew Sein’s attention.
Even through the Faceless Mask, he noticed his grandmaster’s pale complexion and the faint instability in her aura.
Having ended the forbidden spell incantation and suffered backlash, Feylis did not immediately withdraw from the battlefield.
Instead, she remained on the frontlines, offering whatever support she could to the Magus Civilization legions still fighting there.
As a mage on the verge of reaching peak Rank Six, every spell Feylis unleashed was formidable, even her standard offensive magic.
Still, there was no denying that the interruption of the forbidden spell, combined with the lingering effects of the Gallant Federation’s apocalyptical weapon, had inevitably slowed the Magus Civilization Army’s advance by nearly half.
A stalemate gradually took hold across the central battlefield, just as the Gallant Federation’s reinforcements poured in.
***
The arrival of the Gallant Federation’s support legions brought the Magus Civilization’s advance to a halt.
Even with reinforcements from the Rosen Dynasty Civilization, seizing the initiative and securing victory on this central battlefield had become nearly impossible.
The broader course of the war, however, held little relevance for Sein.
The Magus Civilization had deployed roughly equal forces to this subspace battlefield as the Gallant Federation.
Having chosen to prioritize maintaining superiority along the main front rather than diverting massive reinforcements to this subspace ruin, there was little more the Magus Civilization could realistically expect.
Sein needed only to focus on his own objectives and gains.
For him, the good news was that the advance had stalled. However, his sector was no longer the frontline.
The frontline was where Feylis, Seiron, and other powerhouses were.
Sein’s sector had effectively become a secondary battlefield, dominated by Magus Alliance legions such as those from Decaying Plane and the Grand Apocalypse World.
Clearly, the Gallant Federation’s main fleet had abandoned the Grand Apocalypse World creatures after its Rank Six being was injured, and the Magus Civilization legions pushed forward aggressively.
The resulting stalemate meant that more allied forces had gathered around Sein, while the Grand Apocalypse World creatures found themselves increasingly surrounded.
This was a perfect scenario that one could hope for.
By the time even the Rosen Dynasty Civilization’s legions arrived to reinforce the nearby sector, the Rank Six Apocalypse World creature had finally realized that it had no chance of turning the situation around or escaping.
Its resistance steadily weakened.
It was now a cornered beast with no hope of survival.
“Be careful. Don’t let your guard down,” Sein warned Fermera and the God of Decay from his relatively safe position, where he continued to support the battle with long-range spells.
In the midst of the fighting, Sein could not help but glance toward the distant north.
That was where the two overlord-level entities were locked in their confrontation within this subspace.
This was Sein’s first time witnessing a battle between overlords.
Even from such a distance, he could constantly feel the terrifying power fluctuations coming from the northern reaches of this subspace.
